POST-DIVORCE COACHING FOR WOMEN |
| |
| I guess you can't be wise and in love at the same time.
-- Bob Dylan |
| |
| WHY POST-DIVORCE COACHING? |
Many women love and support sacrificially
as their husbands pursue some combination of academic,
business, or professional endeavors, only to find themselves
suddenly-single at mid-life. At this difficult crossroads,
they realize that the anticipated harvest is not to be
an aspect of their mid-life experience. Post-divorce coaching
can provide brief, cost-effective assistance as the woman
transitions from subordinate to independent and achieves
rewarding and enjoyable life on her own terms.
Oftentimes, women in the post-divorce transition have
paid a hefty price in terms of energy and money plus the
"opportunity cost" of having spent their own
business-building 20’s and 30’s in a supportive
role. The skills of these women are largely those of helpmates,
and the challenges of reentry into the academic, business,
and social worlds loom large. Post-divorce coaching can
assist with this transition.
As we have said earlier, "Coaching is having a dedicated
mentor; it's getting knowledgeable support and encouragement
and a new way of looking at things when you need it. If
a coach is nothing else, a coach is a master of implementation,
and a winning coach will impart that mastery to you." |

| WHAT DOES POST-DIVORCE COACHING
ENTAIL? |
| |
| Post-divorce coaching provides
specialized assistance to the woman, who needs more than
financial support from a former husband but opportunities
for ongoing consultation in a trusted relationship of
expertise, privacy, and discretion as a new life is fashioned.
Post-divorce coaching includes: |
| |
 |
the identification
of personal resources (e.g., academic, intellectual,
financial, and creative); |
 |
vectoring these same resources
toward the setting and attainment of goals involving
some combination of interpersonal, academic, and
business endeavors; and |
 |
achieving progress toward enhanced self-assurance and autonomy in one's life. |
|
| FEES FOR POST-DIVORCE COACHING: |
An initial
assessment of approximately three hours in length includes
an interview and the completion of a questionnaire. This
initial assessment is conducted on a fee for service basis
and is required before any longer term commitment between
coach and client is possible.
Fees for post-divorce coaching are payable in advance,
and commitments on behalf of coach and client are generally
for twelve-week periods of time. Post-divorce coaching
is typically a commitment of between six months and a
year.
The partner, who owns the successful business, may wish
to finance a one-year post-divorce coaching relationship
as the former spouse undertakes some combination of educational
pursuits and business-building endeavors. Such a commitment
is sometimes included as an aspect of spousal support.
